ArtPrize Changes for Year 6

The annual ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids changes its awards for this year's competition, doubling the amount of a top prize selected by art experts.

Thursday morning, organizers announced the Juried Grand Prize will increase to $200,000.  That will  match the amount for the prize selected by public vote. They're also doubling the number of finalists from a "Top 10'' to a "Final 20'' in the  second round of voting.

Also new this year, artists will submit work in one of four categories: 2D, 3D, Time Based or Installation.

Eight $20,000 category awards will be given out, including four decided by public vote and four decided by an expert jury. In total, $560,000 will be awarded.

The sixth annual ArtPrize runs in Grand Rapids from September 24 -to- October 12.
