This wicked winter hurts the government budgets. The City of Grand Rapids and Kent County both tell WOOD TV their snow removal budgets are already shot.
Grand Rapids City Manager Greg Sundstrom says they have half a million dollars in the bank for emergencies like this. Kent County's Road Commission Operations Director, Jerry Byrne, expects there may be fewer potholes filled in the spring and other maintenance might go undone.
At MDOT, John Richard said summer grass-cutting and other "aesthetic projects" already are written off. Road building will not be affected this year, but he said 2015 projects will be cut back if the lawmakers do not find more money for the MDOT budget.
