A former elementary school in Grand Rapids is set to reopen as a new living center for senior citizens.
Officials say Riverside Elementary School has been vacant since 2010 and will be converted into a new senior housing and care community.
Vista Springs Living plans to remodel the building that is already over 36,000 square feet and construct a new 15,000 square-foot addition.
Located in the Creston neighborhood, the new facility will include 40 apartments and a wellness center offering rehabilitation programs. WOOD-TV reports the facility will be all-inclusive, with concierge services, transportation, entertainment, and dining.
The development will also include a community theater, conference center and private meeting rooms which will all be available to people who live in the Creston neighborhood.
The project will relocate the existing playground for better public access. After construction has finished, Vista Springs said they will donate the land to the city.
Construction is expected to begin this June with renovations completed by April 2015.
